The International Faculty and Scholar Advisor is part of a team that supports around 2,000 international faculty and scholars at the university. This position reports to the Assistant Director Faculty Scholar Immigration, International Student Scholar Services, within the Office of International Affairs. The advisor is responsible for providing direct assistance to international faculty, scholars, trainees, and interns. Additionally, they handle advising and processing employment visas, ensure compliance with U.S. Government databases and labor laws, organize programming for students and staff, and communicate with various stakeholders both on and off-campus. Candidates for this position should have at least three years of professional experience in the field of international education or international relations. U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residence status is required for certification as a Designated School Official (DSO) or Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO). Cross-cultural communication skills and experience living or studying abroad are also desired. Knowledge of H-1B and/or J-1 visa regulations, as well as experience in immigration application processing, is necessary. Strong oral and written communication skills, exceptional customer service, and public speaking abilities are required. The advisor must possess the ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality while working with sensitive information. Preferred qualifications for this role include a master’s degree in International Education, Student Counseling, or a related field. Experience maintaining SEVIS records and auditable files for government compliance is also desired. The ability to create and deliver presentations, familiarity with major information sources for international educators, proficiency in a language other than English, and the ability to create efficient and organized processes are all advantageous.
