Job Opportunity: Senior Research Associate in Psychology, Sport, and Health Science
The School of Psychology, Sport, and Health Science is inviting applications for the position of Senior Research Associate. This role is a fixed-term appointment until June 30, 2028, and involves working alongside Principal Investigator Dr. Sophie Milward and Co-Investigators Prof. Simon Kizito from Makerere University, Kampala, and Prof. Eunkyung Jo from Dongguk University, Seoul. The successful candidate will engage in diverse research activities focused on exploring the complexity of human social interactions across cultures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage project progression
- Seek and obtain ethical approval
- Recruit participants and collect data within the UK
- Oversee recruitment and data gathering by local research assistants in Uganda and the Republic of Korea
- Analyze complex datasets
- Disseminate research findings through high-quality journal publications and conference presentations
- Collaborate on funding applications for future research
- Maintain effective communication with team members and collaborators
- Contribute to the research culture within the School
The position, based in Portsmouth, will require travel to Uganda and the Republic of Korea, as well as to various conferences. Travel expenses will be fully covered.
Project Overview:
This groundbreaking project aims to expand the understanding of human social interactions beyond traditional two-person interactions typically observed in Western contexts. By conducting experiments in three different cultures—Uganda, the Republic of Korea, and the UK—this research delves into the complexities of group interactions and the cognitive mechanisms at play. The project will focus on measuring error rates and response times in multi-person tasks, considering factors such as group size, cultural differences, and interpersonal dynamics.
