Job Description:
The Sue & Radcliffe Killam Library at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) is seeking a full-time Scholarly Communications Librarian at the Assistant Librarian rank to begin in Fall 2024. TAMIU is a growing university with over 8,000 students located in Laredo, Texas, a vibrant bilingual and bicultural city with a population of about 250,000. This position is a non-tenure track professional faculty role with an initial appointment of 3 years, renewable for up to five years at a time.

Reporting to the Dean of the Library, the Scholarly Communications Librarian will join the Research & Assessment department and lead efforts to educate the campus community on scholarly communications topics. The librarian will support open educational resources (OER) and open access (OA) initiatives, as well as elevate the research profile of TAMIU through collections, publishing support, and programming. Working collaboratively with colleagues across units, the Scholarly Communications Librarian will coordinate, administer, and provide instruction and programming for Library initiatives related to generating, collecting, disseminating, and amplifying campus research, scholarship, and creative activities.

Primary duties include:
– Collaborating with university faculty, staff, and students to develop, promote, and integrate open scholarship
– Designing and providing instruction, continuing education, online resources, guides, and consultations related to scholarly communication topics
– Developing workflows for, promoting, and providing instruction for the Library’s digital repository and other publishing venues
– Coordinating and administering the Library’s open access book publishing platform
– Supporting Killam Library’s OER activities in collaboration with campus stakeholders
– Planning, implementing, and evaluating sustainable services and policies that support open access and preservation of university research and data
– Staying updated on trends in scholarly communication, research data management, copyrights, licensing, and emerging technologies
– Serving as a liaison to assigned academic departments for research and instruction support
– Participating in special projects, committees, and professional development activities

This position requires regular on-campus attendance and face-to-face interactions.

Required Qualifications:
– Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent from an ALA-accrediting institution
– Demonstrated experience with scholarly communications, open access, and/or open educational resources
– Working knowledge of relevant information technology principles and emerging technologies
– Potential for advancement in rank

Preferred Qualifications:
– Desire to serve first-generation students
– Two years of academic library experience
– Experience leading scholarly communication projects and programs, preferably in an academic library
– Demonstrated experience with research data management planning
– Experience with media creation and preservation, open access platforms, scholarly publication, copyright, research data management, OER, and related platforms and organizations
– Experience designing instructional materials for varied audiences
