**Faculty Position in Education and Technology, Cultural Analytics, and/or Digital Communities**

The Faculty of International Liberal Arts at Akita International University (AIU) is seeking applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position, starting as early as April 1, 2025. This role focuses on areas such as Education and Technology, Cultural Analytics, and Digital Communities.

### About Akita International University (AIU)

Founded in 2004, AIU is Japan’s first public university corporation that offers an all-English-medium education in international liberal arts. The university aims to prepare students for global leadership. AIU was ranked 15th overall and 2nd for its engagement and international environment in the most recent Times Higher Education (THE) ranking of Japanese universities, out of more than 800 institutions. ### University Overview

Located in Akita, Japan, AIU operates on a semester calendar with an intensive winter program. All AIU students are required to study abroad for one academic year. One-quarter of our student body comes from the university’s 200 exchange partner institutions, ensuring a diverse classroom environment. ### Academic Programs and Responsibilities

AIU offers advanced undergraduate programs, including Global Business, Global Studies, and the new Global Connectivity Program, which integrates digital technologies with the humanities. We are looking for a candidate to join this program and develop coursework in areas such as the future of teaching and learning, AI and humanity, digital communities, cultural analytics, and the societal impacts of technology. The successful applicant will teach a course on AI and Humanity and oversee the newly redesigned Computer Literacy course. The teaching load is 18 credits per year, and all courses are taught in English.

### Key Qualifications

**Required:**
– Ph.D. in a related field (documentation of anticipated Ph.D. conferral date is required if not yet awarded)
– Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
– Ability to teach at a high level in English
– Scholarly promise
– Commitment to liberal arts education and the AIU Mission Statement

**Desired:**
– University-level teaching experience
– Scholarly achievement
– Experience in multi-cultural and multi-ethnic environments
– Experience living or working in Japan and familiarity with Japanese culture

### Responsibilities

– Teach undergraduate courses in specified areas
– Advise individual undergraduate students
– Engage in scholarly activities leading to presentations and publications
– Participate in university, program, and community service
– Collaborate with faculty and staff on program development

### Appointment Details

The initial contract is for three years and renewable up to two times, with the possibility of tenure. Salary is competitive within Japan and based on qualifications and experience. Benefits include partial housing allowance, health insurance, and a research fund allowance.
